Inhalation injury is one of the major causes of mortality for burns after sepsis. Patients must be considered as having severe burns regardless of the Total Body Surface Burned. Early recognition of smoke injury is very important when assessing patients with thermal injury. Early airway protection and ventilation prevent further complications. A multidisciplinary approach will be discussed during the presentation.

Adelin Muganza is a director of the largest burns center in Africa. He is a specialist Surgeon trained at WITS University in Johannesburg South Africa. Past President of South African Burn Society. Special the interest lies in the research of new technologies and skin substitutes for burn injuries. He has also extensive experience in the intensive care management of Severe Burns. Also involved in Global Surgery in Africa.
